New Mountain Residence
Northern California
Sited on a wooded mountain slope northeast of Napa Valley, the design for this house and guest house was inspired by the architecture of Greene & Greene. Overscaled rafters, exposed natural timber trusses, deep overhangs, and low-pitched roofs define the architectural character. The main house incorporates a 10-degree splay at the two-story volume to maximize views from the living room to the valley beyond. The master bedroom and adjacent sleeping porch are located on the second floor to capture views through existing trees to Mount St. Helena to the northwest. The guest house design incorporates an office and garage on the ground floor with a living room, eat-in-kitchen, bedroom, and bath on the second floor.
