Apartment in the Ansonia
New York
Originally four different residential hotel suites when the Ansonia opened in 1904, the renovation program for this now combined single apartment started with the addition of a new air-conditioning system throughout. Given that almost all areas would be affected by the new ductwork, the owners took this opportunity to correct a number of architectural layout issues. Interventions included adding a proper entry hall and coat closet, architectural organization and articulation of lengthy hallways, new Master Closets, and a reimagined Family Room. Assisting with the interior decoration as well, a combination of furnishings, wallcoverings, and artwork selected by the owners was complemented with vintage 1960s lighting, digitally printed wallpaper from Iksel Decorative Arts, and bold custom paint finishes and colors.
